Progressive Failure Analysis of Laminated CFRP Composites under Three-Point Bending Load

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this paper, the mechanical behavior and damage evolution of CFRP laminates under three-point bending loads were investigated. Based on three-dimensional Hashin failure criterion cohesive zone method, a progressive analysis model was constructed to predict seven different modes, an improved stiffness matrix degradation law proposed. Numerical simulations performed using ABAQUS finite element software UMAT user subroutines verified by tests. The experimental results show that relative errors flexural strength modulus current simulation data ?3.10% ?2.70%, respectively, process after ultimate load accurately predicted. Meanwhile, predicted final modes consistent with micrographs failed specimens.

‌Progressive Damage Analysis of Laminated Composites using Continuum Damage Mechanics

In this paper, progressive damage and global failure of composite laminates under quasi-static, monotonic loading are investigated using 3D continuum damage mechanics. For this purpose, a finite element program has been developed using an eight-node 2D layered element including layer-wise plate theory. Damage analysis of a single orthotropic layer under various uniform in-plane and transverse l...

A Novel Two-Scale Progressive Failure Analysis Method for Laminated Fiber-Reinforced Composites

A novel, two-scale computational model has been developed to predict the progressive damage and failure responses of fiber-reinforced composite laminates using the material properties at the constituent (fiber and matrix) level. These properties were measured from coupon level tests on a unidirectional lamina of the same material system. In the proposed computational scheme, the macroscale fini...

3D FEA Modelling of Laminated Composites in Bending and Their Failure Mechanisms

This paper developed three-dimensional (3D) Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to investigate the effect of fibre lay-up on the initiation of failure of laminated composites in bending. TsaiHill failure criterion was applied to identify the critical areas of failure in composite laminates. In accordance with the 3D FEA, unidirectional ([0]16), cross-ply ([0/90]4s) and angle-ply ([±45]4s) laminates m...

Mode I Failure of Laminated Polymeric Composites

A mechanical model for the prediction of mode I delamination failure of a laminated double cantilever beam (DCB) type specimen is presented. The volume of material ahead of the crack tip that experiences high stresses due to the presence of the crack tip was replaced by a nonlinear elastic spring foundation. The volume undergoing global deformation due to the external loading was replaced by a ...

Multiscale Model for Progressive Damage and Failure of Laminated Composites Using an Explicit Finite Element Method

Initial development of a multiscale progressive damage and failure analysis tool for laminated composite structures is presented. The method models microdamage at the lamina level with the thermodynamically based Schapery Theory. Transverse cracking and ber breakage, considered failure mechanisms in this work, are modeled with failure criteria evaluate at the micro-constituent level using the G...
